Mattie Marshall

Mattie Marshall
On Saturday, September 7 of 2024, the Nurses Honor Guard of East Central Alabama had the privilege of honoring Mattie Marshall RN.

Mattie graduated from Hennepin Technical College in 1988. She served the nursing profession for over 30 years with a heart full of compassion and a spirit of dedicated service to her patients. She began her career at the Metro Care Center in Minneapolis during the 1990s, caring for patients with Huntington’s disease. Through the challenges and heartache that came with this difficult work, she stood strong, offering not just her medical expertise, but a warmth and empathy that went beyond the call of duty.

When the Metro Care Center closed its doors, Mattie’s compassion led her to Azalea Trace in Columbus, Georgia, where she continued to care for those in need, particularly in long-term and acute rehabilitation. Her calm presence brought peace and comfort to both patients and their families during some of their most trying times. At West Central Mental Health Hospital, she offered not only her skill but her deep sense of humanity, serving those battling mental illness with dignity and respect.

Mattie will forever be a shining example of what it means to be a nurse—a true healer, advocate, and comforter. Her dedication will not be forgotten, and the legacy she leaves behind in every life she touched will live on as a testament to her compassion for her patients and her dedication to the field of nursing.

Mattie Marshall RN, we officially release you of your nursing duties, and we will proudly continue to carry the torch.
